PRIME MINISTER P.J. Patterson has offered his condolences to the family, friends and the management of the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), following the death of JNBS director H. Anthony "Tony" Clarke on Tuesday.
Mr. Patterson said that Mr. Clarke had made "significant contributions" to the growth and development of the JNBS while serving as a director since 1970. He noted that the society experienced phenomenal growth during this period, "and set the pace for the vibrancy which now exists in that segment of the financial
sector."
He said that Government entities, including the Agricultural Development Corporation and the West Indies Sugar Company Limited, had also benefited from Mr. Clarke's skills as their chairman.
The JNBS also issued a statement yesterday expressing regret at Mr. Clarke's passing.
"Mr. Clarke is fondly remembered by the Board of Directors and employees of the society who worked with him. They recall his jovial, warm and welcoming personality, his keen eye for details and his openness, which invited persons to share their ideas and thoughts with him," the JNBS statement said.
Mr. Clarke, the brother of the Chairman of the Gleaner Company, Oliver Clarke, died from an heart attack, while attending a JN Fund Managers function at the Bloomfield Great House in Mandeville. He was a director of the JNBS and its subsidiary JN Fund Managers Limited.
