Jobs, economic justice needed

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE TURMOIL that exists in Jamaica today is mostly caused by social and economic injustice. What the people want and need are jobs and justice.

History shows that injustice by the state has caused bloody civil wars.

Many of the intellectuals who administer justice in this country, especially to the poor, should be fired when consideration is given to certain verdicts and recommendations by commissions. What the people want are leaders who will action to ensure justice, and not mere talk.

If justice continues as it is then a bloody civil war is inevitable as we seem to be on the verge of one.

One Jamaican worker's salary is $9 million a year while a street sweeper's salary is $50,000 a year. The street sweeper would have to work for 180 years to earn what the other worker earns in a year. What a disparity. The street sweeper's son or he himself may have a hard time getting justice in court as he cannot afford a lawyer on his salary. It is in the interest of this country for that the authorities give special and economic justice to the people.

I am, etc.,
