Warranty - the real deal

By Suzann Dodd, Contributor

SO YOU buy a NAME BRAND computer and the reseller tells you about the warranty. You think, because you have a warranty you are protected.

Think again.

The majority of resellers, not all, believe that a warranty means that when (not if) the computer ceases to function they will fix it, (sometime in your life time) free.

The majority of resellers believe they are doing you a big favour in importing computers they do not have parts for. Unless you are willing to go the limit, most resellers will NOT return your money will NOT give you a replacement computer, but expect you to sit and wait until if and when they get the part and can get around to fixing your computer.

Not all do this.

There is a handful of resellers who WILL fix your computer within 24 hours. There is a handful of resellers who will return your money if you are not satisfied. When you purchase ask the right questions from the right people and get it in writing.

A number of 'highly respected' resellers are beginning to feel the pinch of the Real Deal. They are beginning to understand that the Jamaican public is not made up of idiots who are willing to accept their jaundiced explanations of warranty, who are not willing to wait 15 days to life for them to import parts.

This is because a number of resellers have for too long played a game in which they wrote the rules. The rules are now being rewritten and they are playing for time.

Before you buy a computer, speak to whomever is in charge of that emporium. Not the sales jerk who used to work at a fast food parlour or sell insurance; not the geek in the back who does not know the days of the week; not the gal in the short skirt with the bad attitude, but the guy or gal who owns or is the signature at that company. Ask him/her "If this computer ceases to work within the warranty period, can I get my money back?"

If they say no, you say no.

Ash him/her if you cannot fix this computer within 24 hours will you give me a replacement? If they say no, you say no. There is a company right now that says yes. Find that company.
