Controlling diabetes

DIABETICS CAN control their condition by adopting many lifestyle changes. Nutritionists at the Nutrition and Dietetics Division (Ministry of Health), for instance, recommend a review of your nutritional habits and then integration of the following changes:

EAT A VARIETY OF FOODS

eat a variety of fruits and vegetables every day according to your meal plan have different types of starch food, for example, bammy, macaroni and yam eat more high-fibre foods for example, yam, breadfruit, whole wheat flour and bread eat less salty foods

AVOID SKIPPING MEALS

do not skip meals as this will make you extra hungry, moody and unable to concentrate this encourages unhealthy choices eat your meals at about the same time every day.

Also include adequate amounts of carbohydrates in the diet. Foods high in carbohydrate include bread, flour, yam, corn, banana, potato, breadfruit, rice and fruits.
