THE EDITOR, Sir:
CONCERNING THE present uproar in the Police Force concerning the leadership of SSP Reneto Adams, Adams is a cops' cop.
There is only one way for this dedicated but sometimes controversial officer whose honesty is beyond reproach. If he says he suspects corruption among some squad members because of their lifestyle, let investigations determine if there are foundations to the suspicions. This man is a straight shooter.
Commissioner Forbes should put a stop to this mini-mutiny before it gets out of hand. The radical decision is usually the right one. The right decision is usually the hardest one, and the hardest decisions are the least popular at the time they are made.
Commissioner, this time it's your call. Do the right thing. Adams is no lighting rod; he is passionate about crime and what it's doing to the social fabric of our great country. We need a couple more Reneto Adamses to keep the criminal element always on the run.
Don't let a couple of disgruntled line staff demoralise and contaminate the work of all the good men and women in the Police Force.
I am, etc.,
