Boyz hunt Grenada scalp

THE REGGAE BOYZ will eagerly chase victory today and a berth in the final round of CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying when they take on hosts Grenada in St. George's tonight at 6:00 (Jamaica time).

After a 1-1 draw in their opening qualifying game against Barbados last Saturday and a 2-0 victory over Guadeloupe on Monday, a win tonight would see them through to the final stage of qualifying in Trinidad and Tobago next year. The top two sides from the four-team group will advance.

Grenada have lost their two games to date (Guadeloupe 5-4 and Barbados 2-1), so the Jamaicans will start hot favourites to clinch.

A sluggish first game against Barbados, which required a 89th minute strike from Paul Hall to salvage a draw, was followed by a far improved performance against Guadeloupe, in which Rushden and Diamonds' striker Hall and Jermaine Johnson found the back of the net. That scoreline could have been far better if not for a number of squandered scoring opportunities.

In the first game of today's doubleheader, joint leaders Barbados (four points) take on Guadeloupe (two).

Jamaica's starting team is likely to comprise: Aaron Lawrence, Ian Goodison, Claude Davis, Tyrone Marshall, Robert Scarlett, Craig Ziadie, Richard Langley, Fitzroy Simpson, Jermaine Johnson, Paul Hall and Fabian Taylor.
