THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE SUNDAY, November 10, 2002 Outlook featured a very outstanding personality.
It was such a good feeling to have read about the award ceremony in honour of a long-standing teacher of this country. Mrs. Gloria McGlashan has been at the Kingston Secondary School (now Kingston High) for several years and I have had the privilege of being her student and also to have served as a worker at the school during her tenure as principal.
She is a wonderful person: she has been a mother, a counsellor, and a friend. These characteristics are indicative of someone who is a committed Christian. To have served at a school located in an inner-city community that carries a 'bad' name one had to have a strong faith in God and be committed to her job in order to have stood out like a beacon in the midst of the struggles.
I am sure that Ms. McGlashan will endorse the statement that "there have been good times in the midst of the bad times." She successfully led her staff through all the storms and is worthy of the honour bestowed on her for her sterling performance, dedicated work, and exemplary life at Kingston High. Her choice to be at Kingston High has been a good one and I am overjoyed to have been associated with her.
She has been a real mentor to me and for this I am eternally grateful. I am proud of you and I use this medium to congratulate you on behalf of all of us (past students) and trust that as you retire, you will enjoy every moment of it. Well deserved. Love you.
I am, etc.,
MICHELLE STEPHENS
