By Claudia Gardner, Freelance Writer

HANOVER:

A MAN who appeared in the Lucea Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on charges of house breaking and larceny and possession of ganja, told the judge that he stole from people because someone had worked obeah on him.

He was remanded in custody.

The police report that on Monday, November 4, Lesbert Sinclair broke into a house in Lucea where he stole a number of items including a cable cord, a wallet, cassettes and a bracelet, all valued at $15,000. He was also found in possession of a ganja spliff. Sinclair pleaded guilty to both charges and asked permission to give an explanation as to why he stole the items.

"Somebody set hand pon mi, sah!" he told the Judge. "Mi working, and have money in mi pocket and mi just find myself stealing."

When asked by the Judge if he just had an urge to steal, Sinclair replied: "No sah, somebody put a han pon mi!".

He was told by the Judge to keep himself in check and "not to listen to people who told him those type of things".

He was fined $100 on the ganja charge and ordered fingerprinted. He is booked to be sentenced for the larceny offence on November 26.
