THE PUBLIC has a right to know the full details behind what is going on at the Crime Management Unit (CMU).Of particular interest is the planned transfer of 12 members of the Crime Management Unit, who were involved in a sick-out last week. For the past week there have been allegations of corruption within the controversial squad headed by Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams.
Those members of the squad who went on sick-out were reported to have done so because of their objection to the management style of SSP Adams. Mr. Adams's retort was that he was trying to deal with reports of corruption within the squad.
Mr. Francis Forbes, the Commissioner of Police, said he had been informed of the allegations made against members of the Crime Management Unit but that the men who were being transferred were guilty of indiscipline and had breached the grievance procedures of the JCF. That is not good enough. If the allegations of corruption have any substance they must be investigated and those who are guilty brought to book.
Also, Mr. Forbes needs to tell the public if the rearrangements with respect to the Crime Management Unit, bringing it under the umbrella of the Mobile Reserve, is a tacit acceptance that this special unit has failed in its designated task of bringing crime under control.
