NWC responds to disruption of supply
published: Saturday | November 16, 2002

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS IS the NWC's response to a letter to the Editor from a Miss Grant:

My name is Karen J. Brown and I am Community Relations Officer for the Central Region of the National Water Commission. I noticed your letter to the Editor in The Gleaner of November 14, and thought it pertinent to respond to your complaint.

First, according to the status report compiled and issued daily by the Operations Manager for the region, the Peace River Relift Pumping Unit developed an electrical problem on November 11. This problem has been rectified, and the system restored to full operation on November 13. This means that regular water supply should return to the distribution lines by November 14.

According to the report then, your area (if you are indeed served by the Peace River system) was only out of water for three to four days. If this is inaccurate, please contact and/or correct me.

Second, I would like to enquire as to whether, when the problem with supply arose, any attempt was made by yourself or fellow citizens to contact the May Pen Office of the NWC; and particularly District/Parish Manager Mr. Anthony Cornwall? Mr. Cornwall is the person in charge who would have informed the Operations Manager here in Mandeville about a problem with the system, and asked that a maintenance crew be dispatched to check the unit.

If you didn't, please make sure, in the future, to call Mr. Cornwall's office at 902-2622/902-5781 as soon as any problem with water supply arises in your community. If you are not satisfied with Mr. Cornwall's action (or rather, lack of action), please feel free to call me at 962-3497/962-2685/6. We are here to serve you, and you should not have to write to The Gleaner to have a simple matter like water supply disruption clarified/rectified. In any case, please contact me at the e-mail address below or at the phone numbers given, so we can discuss the matter further.

I am etc.,
KAREN J. BROWN
