JAMAICA LABOUR Party (JLP) Deputy Leader and Member of Parliament, Audley Shaw should be out of hospital by early next week.

Speaking with The Gleaner yesterday his wife, Maureen, confirmed that Mr. Shaw had been transferred from the Percy Junor Hospital in Spaldings, Clarendon to the Tony Thwaites Wing at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in Kingston on Thursday.

He underwent sur-gery for a partial intestinal obstruction which was relieved and he is expected to be discharged in a few days, a JLP statement yesterday said.

Mrs Shaw said that her husband also underwent a battery of tests which showed "no major medical complaints. He now needs to rest and he should be out of hospital in a couple of days, she added.

Mr. Shaw, who is also Member of Parliament for North East Manchester and Opposition spokesman on finance, missed Thursday's Parliamentary swearing-in ceremony at Gordon House, Kingston due to his illness. He fell ill on Wednesday and was rushed to the Percy Junor hospital, suffering from abdominal pains and other symptoms of gastroenteritis, as well as dehydration.
