Goodbye Jamaica
published: Wednesday | November 20, 2002

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I was sitting in my office in Northern Virginia this morning, not at all nervous after the recent sniper attacks, when I started reading your article about the children who were shot by gunmen in Kingston.

The tears rolling down my cheeks are not only for the children, but for Jamaica, a Jamaica I now think is forever lost to the criminal elements.

I am to catch a 8:30pm flight connecting in Miami to arrive in Kingston on Thursday. I was coming down with my wife and five-year-old daughter, coming to Jamaica as I have done every November to visit Caymanas Park for the Red Stripe Superstakes.

I will be there, but only to say goodbye Jamaica.

I am, etc.,
