THE EDITOR, Sir:
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Hon. Dr. Donald Rhodd
on his re-election as Member of Parliament for East Portland and also on his
appointment as one of the junior ministers in the Ministry of Education Youth
and Culture.
During his first tenure as MP, I was very impressed with his approach to the
governance of his constituency. His approach is like a breath of fresh air to
today's politics. The first thing that moved me, was the physical separation
of his office as Member of Parliament from his party office. All the people
of East Portland felt quite comfortable visiting with their Member of Parliament,
as the office was not seen as a party or a PNP office.
The way he tries to develop the constituency and assist members of the community
was also very commendable. He encourages community building through organisation
and groups such as the JAS, the SDC, sport and youth clubs, citizens' association
Neighbourhood Watch etc. He channels most of his resources for the community
through these groups. These groups are encouraged and assisted to undertake
financial, civic, and social projects and programmes. He also meets frequently
with groups from all sector of the constituency to ensure that everyone has
a say in the running of the constituency.
I want to wish him all the best both as a Member of Parliament and as junior
minister and to assure him that the people of East Portland are behind him all
the way. Congratulation Dr. Rhodd.
I am, etc.,
KENNETH BAILEY
