published: Wednesday | November 20, 2002

By Nagra Plunkett, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

THERE IS still no identification of the man who was fatally shot by the St. James police on Bevin Avenue in 'the second city' on Friday.

A home-made firearm was also seized from the deceased, who is alleged to have pulled the gun from his waist and fired at the police. He is of a dark complexion, slim build and is 5 ft. 8 inches tall. The man was wearing a black T-shirt, a pair of blue jeans with red and black sneakers.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), at about 11:15 a.m., a police team was on patrol on Bevin Avenue, when the man was seen. His actions reportedly aroused the attention of the police, when he was accosted. It is reported that he drew the firearm and fired at the lawmen. The gunfire was returned and he was shot and injured. The gun, with a 20-gauge spent shell and two 20-gauge cartridges, was taken from him. He was carried to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The MoBay Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is probing the case.
