Road and Works boss gets contract renewed
published: Wednesday | November 20, 2002

PORTMORE, St. Catherine:

FRANKLYN BINNS, Superintendent of Roads and Works in the St. Catherine Parish Council, has had his contract renewed for another two years by the Services Commission.

The councillors had objected a few months ago to a ruling by the Services Commission to send Mr. Binns on retirement. In a letter to the Services Commission in September, councillors asked that Mr. Binns remain with the Council for at least another two years.

At that time, Councillor for the Old Harbour North Division, Ralston Wilson, said it was his hope that the request to the Services Commission did not turn into a fight between the Commission and the Councillors.

At last Thursday's monthly sitting of the Parish Council, the Chamber erupted in applause with the decision of the Services Commission to have Mr. Binns remain for at least two more years. Councillors said they were happy with the quick action of the Services Commission as Mr. Binns has been a "good servant" to the country and especially to the St. Catherine Parish Council. He has also started several projects that needed to be completed, they said.
