Wolmer's suffer second defeat, St Hugh's still on winning streak

DEFENDING CORPORATE Area Junior and Senior league champions Wolmer's and St. Hugh's had differing fortunes after Monday's third round of the ISSA schoolgirls netball competition at the Leila Robinson Courts.

Wolmer's, who are also the All-Island Junior champions, suffered their second defeat, going down 21-19 to Jonathan Grant. Their first loss was 17-12 to Holy Childhood.

St. Hugh's, on the other hand, continued their unbeaten run with an exciting 24-23 triumph over Excelsior in Senior action. The respective competitions continue today at the same venue with Junior League starting at 1:30 p.m.

Wolmer's will seek to avenge Monday's loss against Queen's, Ardenne take on Camperdown, Jonathan Grant face Holy Childhood, Charlie Smith play Alpha Academy, Oberlin tackle St Hugh's while Excelsior face Tivoli.

Charlie Smith and Holy Childhood are undefeated and will look to keep their early records intact. They defeated St. Hugh's and Ardenne 24-12 and 17-7 respectively in their last games.

Other results that afternoon saw Queen's edging Camperdown 12-11, Tivoli beating Alpha 21-12 and Excelsior stopping Oberlin 24-14.

When Senior League play gets under way at 2:10 p.m. St. Hugh's will hunt another win when they take on St. Jago.

Other matches see St. Catherine against Alpha, Mona against Excelsior, Wolmer's against Queen's, Camperdown against Ardenne and Holy Childhood against Dunoon. Dunoon, St Hugh's and Mona have not yet lost a game from the three they've played so far.

On Monday, Dunoon stopped Queen's 28-27, St. Hugh's clipped Excelsior 24-23, Mona defeated St. Catherine 32-15, Alpha beat St. Jago 28-24, Holy Childhood defeated Camperdown 27-13 while Wolmer's overran Ardenne 24-9.
