US visa applicants required to show proof of payment
published: Saturday | November 23, 2002

AS OF December 1 all applicants for US non-immigrant visas must show that they have made the US$100 payment before their applications are accepted and processed.

Those persons who purchased their visa fee receipts on or after November 1,2002 will not be affected.

"Applicants who purchased visa fee receipts before November 1 will have to pay the difference between the purchase price and US$100," US Embassy said yesterday. "This supplemental payment will be the US$55 for receipts purchased before June 1."

Persons making supplemental payments should do so at the Consular Section's cashier when they go for their interview or for the renewal of a previously issued visa.

According to the release, the US Department of State has found that numerous travel agencies and individuals, rushed out and purchased books of receipts at the lower fee just before the new application fee was announced last month.

"The US Department of State has decided to limit the validity of the US$65 fee receipts (and any US$45 receipts in circulation) to November 30, 2002," the release said.

On November 1, the Depart-ment of State increased the fee for visas from US$65 to US$100. It said the adjustment was made to bring the fee in line with the actual costs of administering non immigrant visa services following the September 11, 2001 terrorist strikes on the US.
