THE EDITOR, Sir:THE UNLAWFUL taking of any life is indeed wrong and unjustifiable. However, it appears even more reprehensible when such a life is that of an innocent child or a defenceless senior citizen.
I have always been seriously unnerved by the scurrilous criminal actions of our nation's undesirables, who, for whatever reason, have no reverence whatsoever for the value of human life.
In recent times, whether through mere coincidence or deliberate conduct, there have been too many instances in which the lives of so many of our nation's children are being taken away by those who are only intent on wreaking continuous havoc across our land.
It is against this backdrop that I repeat the call for the government to, in addition to other initiatives, re-introduce the death penalty rather expeditiously.
We cannot allow for things to continue on like this. We cannot allow for these criminal agents to continue to assault us without our taking the necessary corrective measures to ensure their defeat.
If these criminals continue to show stark disrespect for the value of other lives, why should we continue to be kind to them in refusing to justifiably take theirs?
We cannot take it anymore. We are fed up. Enough is enough!
