COMPRESSED GANJA with an estimated street value of £574,540, which was destined for St. Maarten, was intercepted by the Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) during a routine operation at Berth 11, Kingston Wharves, last Friday.
"We are still continuing our investigations into the matter," head of the Narcotics Division, Senior Superintendent Carl Williams, told The Gleaner yesterday.
The drug was reportedly concealed in the cavity of a pool table, wrapped with brown masking tape and packed in a 20-foot container, which has since been detained at the Narcotics Headquarters on Spanish Town Road, Kingston.
The seizure came at a time when the Government, with assistance from the British Government, is improving security measures at the island's ports of entry. National Security Minister, Dr. Peter Phillips, told a news conference in the United Kingdom that more security officers and scanning machines would be installed at the ports.
