Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad to vie for Petcom title
published: Wednesday | November 27, 2002

JAMAICA'S TOP-ranked rally drivers, Jeffery Panton, Doug Gore, Gary Gregg and David Summerbell Jnr., will renew their rivalry with their Barbados and Trinidad counterparts in the two-day Petcom sponsored Jamaica Motoring Club (JMC) Stages Rally.

The event, which has attracted more than 32 competitors, will get under way on Saturday, December 7, at the Petcom Service Station in Naggo Head, Portmore, at 9:00 a.m.

It will take the participants across the terrain of Innswood, Bybrook and Wakefield in St. Catherine. The day will conclude at the Petcom Service Station on Hagley Park Road, Kingston.

The rally will restart the following day at Petcom, Portmore in St. Catherine at 7:00 a.m. The designated route will take in parts of Bernard Lodge, Innswood, Twickenham Park, Bernard Lodge and Caymanas Estate, St. Catherine. The finishing line will be at the Caymanas Golf Club.

Trinidad and Tobago's lone competitor is Don Powell who competed in the event last year. Eight Barbadians - Roger Hill/Graham Gittens, Harold Morely/Pam Morely, Roger Skeete/David Crawford, Trevor Manning/Heath Hazel, Adrian Linton/Johnathan Linton, Sean Gill/Michael Cummings will try to defy the Jamaicans.

The event was won by Doug Gore and Mark Nelson last year, followed by Summerbell and Mike Fennell Jnr., Roy King and Winston Dawson and Chris Addison and Sean Williams.

Jamaican team have won each year since the event's inception but the Barbadians look good this year.

There are reports Skeete and David Crawford will pilot a Ford Escort World Rally car.
