Remove Rodney's statue

THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN YOUR story, "Lewis Hutchinson: The Mad Master,"I saw that the statue of Admiral Rodney stands in Spanish Town Square. No statue of any English person or any foreigner should stand at the centre of any Jamaican city, town or village. Move all statues of the English, the Spanish and all other foreigners to a "history park," where they can be visited by tourists, history students and the curious.
Prime Minister Patterson, I urge you to remove these foreign icons from the prominent places of our nation and replace them all with the favourite National Heroes. If I visited Trinidad and my host took me to a town square and showed me the statue of an English admiral standing there, I would not see the relevance of the admiral being there, and I would want to know "where is the local guy"? We are giving these foreigners all this recognition at the expense of solidifying our nationality, our national unity and our strength. We are dissipating our energy, our strength and our confidence when we pay homage to foreigners. Place those statues, all of them, in a "history park" somewhere outside the Corporate Area.
