THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT SEEMS to me that while our leaders search for answers to the crime problem the criminals and hoodlums get bolder.
For the life of me I cannot understand how many committees do we have to set up before we find an answer. Some of our smartest and brightest Jamaicans have studied and made numerous recommendations on this issue; in addition, several overseas agencies have also given their input. It is a big insult to these people that their ideas are never given serious consideration.
A few days ago Dr. D.K. Duncan aptly chronicled some of these reports. Now I say to all law-abiding Jamaicans get up stand up for your rights and country. All that is needed for evil to thrive is for good people to stand by and do nothing. There is too much talk and not enough action. Apathy won't help us and our politicians lack vision, courage and answers.
I hear more constructive ideas on how to solve this problem coming from bars than out of Parliament. Jamaicans, don't wait for a family member or friend to die before your voice is heard.
If the IMF, World Bank, and the US government gave us all the money they had we would still have some of the problems we have in Jamaica, so the problem is not only money-related. To all law-abiding Jamaicans I say if not for yourself then do it for children. God bless you all, Jamaica land we love.
I am, etc.,
