Health fair for youth in St Ann today
published: Thursday | November 28, 2002

THE ADOLESCENT Friendly Group, which operates out of the Alexandria Community Hospital in St. Ann, will be hosting a health fair for young people on the grounds of the Aabuthnott Gallimore High School, today, starting at 10:00 a.m.

Christine Brown, Dental Nurse for schools, says the main objective of the health fair is to help adolescents become aware of the different organisations that were around to help them.

According to Miss Brown the event was targeted at adolescents in all the schools in the area, as well as those who have already left school, "because we want them to come out and take charge of all areas of their health."

HELPING HANDS

A number of organisations dedicated to the development of young people are slated to participate in the fair including Youth Now, the National Youth Service, FAMPLAN, the Children Services Division in the Ministry of Health, Victim Support Unit and Women's Centre. Public health, dental and mental health nurses, as well as psychologists and medical practitioners will also be on hand.

The services to be carried out include medical examinations, dental treatments, eye examinations, immunisations and counselling
sessions.
