Rapists get 24 years
published: Monday | December 2, 2002

MAY PEN:

TWO MEN who were facing charges of abduction and rape were each sentenced to 24 years in prison when they appeared in the Clarendon Circuit Court last week Monday.

Winston Palmer, otherwise called 'Renky', and Qurn Dou-glas, also known as 'Red Rat', both 22 years old from Farm district, were found guilty of both charges and were each sentenced to 14 years on the charge of rape and 10 years on the charge of abduction.

Palmer and Douglas were charged on April 11, 2000 after they reportedly abducted and raped a 14-year-old girl. A third man was also charged in connection with the incident. However, following investigations by the police, the man was acquitted of the charges.

The court was told that on the day in question, the two men went to the home of the complainant where she was at home with a male companion. The teenage girl and her companion were then abducted by Palmer and Douglas and taken into nearby bushes.

The men then proceeded to rape the girl but the male companion managed to escape and called the police. The two men were caught in the bushes by the lawmen, partially undressed and were subsequently arrested and charged.
