On abolishing the Jamaican cent

THE EDITOR, Sir:
WITH THE Jamaican dollar approaching an exchange rate of J$50 toUS$1 against its US counterpart the time may have come to consider the possibility of abolishing the Jamaican cent and rounding everything off to the nearest dollar.
The changes involved would not exceed 50 cents Jamaican (or 1 cent US) and would tend to cancel out over a period of time.
Persons recording sums of money would save two figures and a decimal point, whilst some now almost worthless coins would gradually disappear.
