Planning is key to Mandeville's development

THE EDITOR, Sir:
MANDEVILLE HAS undergone many changes, especially to its overall commercial infrastructure, which has in most cases uplifted the outlook of the town. Many new buildings have contributed, such as the Dehring Bunting & Golding building, the refurbished Haughton's Phar-macy, Tastee Patties, the new Bashco and more recently the new KFC (the largest in the island).
These developments are all positive, however, I urge all new investors in the Mandeville area to take on a strong sense of corporate responsibility as it relates to the environment and act as a pressure group to local administrators for ensuring cleanliness and beautification around the areas where their businesses are located.
Mandeville has so much potential as a tourism destination, not only for international tourists but also for 'dry-land,' domestic tourists. Corporate investment that seeks to capitalise on this potential should be encouraged.
Expectations for such investments are numerous; as market demand for several services, especially in the realms of entertainment and recreation will be taken advantage of. However, the Parish Council and all others responsible for 'city planning' have to adopt a dynamic strategic administrative framework, so that it can respond effectively and efficiently to investment interests in Mandeville. If this responsiveness is achieved then the 'raw' potential of Mandeville and its environs can be shaped to something refined. Therefore, city planning, calls for an almost artistic touch, where creativity and skill are manifested.
