THE EDITOR, Sir:ON NOVEMBER 20, I took my children to watch the McDonald's concert at the Little Theatre to celebrate World Children's Day in Jamaica. I only heard about it because my neighbour's child was performing.
It was an outstanding show of over 200 children on stage for a brilliant performance of some of the best junior talent in the island. It was refreshing to attend a show which was suitable for children and the entire family.
The show started on time at 7:00 p. m., and ended just after 8:30 p.m. and featured acts from Wolmers Prep School, Queens Prep School, Avenias Children and the Barbican Baptist Church Childrens Choir.
The MC for the evening, Fae Ellington, was a perfect fit as she spoke well and is quite a role model for Jamaican children.
Where was the Government on this day? There were no national activities to celebrate this day which is indeed a United Nation's designated day. According to the message read by a child from William Knibb Prep School, World Children's Day started over 12 years ago by UNICEF.
I applaud the McDonald's Corporation and its local team for its sponsorship of the celebrations in Jamaica which was to raise money for the Bustamante Children's Hospital.
We cannot sit back and allow the private sector to take the responsibilities which should be led by the Government and its appointed personnel.
Where was the Ministry of Youth? Where was the Children's Ambassador?
Again, congratulations to Patricia Isaacs and her team.
I am, etc,
