LAST SUNDAY,
talented Jamaican designer Tasha Hussey opened her boutique at 56 Old Hope Road in Kingston and simultaneously treated the audience to a preview of her Spring 2003 collection.
As usual, the hallmark of Hussey's designs are 'comfort chic' and her collection, which features a lot of cotton, linen and calico, catered to the every whim of the average Jamaican. There were comfortable casual drawstring pants for men and women, drawstring skirts, long flowing dresses for both casual and semi-formal occasions, halter tops, sexy see-thru blouses, which can be paired with anything to create the desired look and cool shirts for men. Hussey also had some pieces in silk and organza for those dressier occasions.
"I have my standard resort line which is mainly drawstring pieces, but I have delved more into calico and for men, linen. I have also experimented with stretch cotton in colours. You will see a number of pants and skirts in these materials. The newest addition to my collection, though, is the chiffon patchwork line," said Hussey.
