MEGA CRUISE ship, Carnival Conquest, made its inaugural visit to Montego Bay last Wednesday (Dec. 4), carrying 3,000 passengers.
Carnival Conquest, the latest addition to the Carnival Cruise Lines, is expected to visit MoBay weekly and is one of several mega lines hoped to make regular calls to the second city. This is the second mega vessel to visit the port since dredging of the Harbour. The first was Arosa Blu, operated by the German-based Princess Lines.
Carnival Conquest, which sailed from New Orleans on a seven-day cruise, will make weekly stops in Montego Bay. It weighs about 110,000 tonnes with the capacity to accommodate 3,700 passengers and has some 1,200 crewmembers.
Latest available statistics from the Jamaica Tourist Board indicate that 275 vessels have visited the island between January and September this year, 72 of these called at Montego Bay port, which tourist officials expect to become a homeport in the future.
