Upbeat Seba face Village
published: Wednesday | December 11, 2002

WESTERN BUREAU:

FORMER CHAMPIONS Seba United will be going after their first back-to-back win in this season's Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) this afternoon when they travel to the Elleston-Wakeland Community Centre to face Village United, starting at 3:00.

After a miserable first round which saw the two-time champions finish in seventh place, only with a two wins late in the round over arch-rivals Wadadah and an upset of defending champions Arnett Gardens, they are unbeaten after two games in the second round so far.

Village on the other hand have struggled, drawing their two games played, both away, and have not scored a goal in their last four games, a span of 387 minutes.

Their last goal came in the 63rd minute in a 3-1 win over Rivoli on November 3.

Meanwhile there will be two other games played in western Jamaica, both starting at 6:00 p.m., Wadadah and Bull Bay will meet at Jarrett Park in a clash of cellar dwellers while Reno host third place Hazard at the Frome Sports Complex.

The red hot Hazard who just missed a place in the end of round finals on goal difference are coming off a morale boosting 5-1 spanking of Bull Bay last Thursday and will be looking for a repeat of their first round 2-0 win over the Westmoreland club.

Roen Nelson, last season's top scorer and this year's leader with 12 strikes so far, will be on the prowl once more along with Kevin Deer, Wolry Wolfe and the Grenadian international Anthony Modeste.

Reno staged a mini recovery midway the first round after a dreadful start and despite not winning any of their games played in the second round, held Arnett Gardens 1-1 at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex in their last outing and will be eager to show off what they have learned under new Technical Director, Donald 'Billy' Perkins.

They have given up just one goal so far this round and will be hoping their defence anchored by national goalkeeper Aaron Lawrence can keep out the Hazard attackers.

At the Elleston-Wakeland center, Village will be playing at home for the first time in three rounds and will give the Seba team a good test as to how far they have come since the end of the first round.

After drawing away to the high scoring Harbour View, Seba managed a 1-0 win over a scrappy Constant Spring team at Jarrett Park but will find the Village team a much strong opposition.
