Kingston Wharves showdown in February
published: Wednesday | December 18, 2002

KINGSTON WHARVES sent out notices yesterday advising shareholders that an extraordinary general meeting will be held on February 18.

The meeting is being convened in response to a request from several stockholders, who wish to remove eight members of the 12-member board, replacing them with nine members of their choice. Chairman Rafael Diaz said the notice had been dispatched within the time stipulated by law to accommodate the demand of three shareholders.

The directors took into account the gravity of the request by the three shareholders, Mr. Diaz said. His statement named the three as by Transocean Shipping Limited, Maritime & Transport Services Limited and the Shipping Association of Jamaica Property Limited. ``"The directors will be communicating in writing shortly with the stockholders of Kingston Wharves to set out in a comprehensive manner the reasons why stockholders should not vote for a change in the directorate of the company," Mr. Diaz said in his statement.
