Cops in search of man after stabbing death
published: Wednesday | December 18, 2002

By Michael McLean, Freelance Writer

SANTA CRUZ:

The St. Elizabeth police are in search of a man who stabbed to death another man in Santa Cruz on Saturday morning.

Dead is Greg Vernon, otherwise called 'Chippong', 23 years old, unemployed of Seven Corners district, St. Elizabeth. On the run is Kenneth Roy Roberts, otherwise called 'Tall Man', of Middlesex district in the parish.

The Santa Cruz CIB reported that at about 4 a.m. on Saturday morning, an argument developed between both men at a yard at 91 Main Street, Santa Cruz. The dispute started after the deceased allegedly used a piece of iron to beat 'Tall Man' who reportedly used a knife to stab Vernon in his chest. He collapsed and died on the spot. The body was removed to the morgue by Brown's Funeral Parlour. 'Tall Man', who is said to be a plum vendor is now on the run.

The Santa Cruz police, who are investigating, have taken two women into custody, who they believe can help them in their investigations. This is the 19th person to be murdered since the start of the year in St. Elizabeth.
