Man electrocuted in Claremont
published: Wednesday | December 18, 2002

By Leslie McLean, Freelance Writer

CLAREMONT:

PATRICK ALEXANDER, a 23-year-old gardener of Claremont was electrocuted when he attempted to illegally extract current from a Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo) line during an unscheduled power cut on December 10.

Information gleaned is that Alexander moved electric wires from his home on a hill down to the main line, near the main road and, was in the process of making a connection, when the light returned five minutes after the outage. He was entangled in the wire.

A search of the area by relatives and friends the following day, proved futile. But, last Thursday morning, December 12, a man who lived in the area discovered Alexander's body.

JPSCo personnel who arrived on the scene dismantled the wires from Alexander's body. A large crowd gathered on the scene as news spread of Alexander's death. The body was removed to Brown's Funeral Home.

There was another unscheduled power cut in the same area on Wednesday night December 11, only this time it lasted for one hour.
