THE EDITOR, Sir:
NOW THAT we have made the admission of our chronic debt issues, many are criticising and suggesting solutions.
As far as I can recall, we have always had economic and social problems and there have always been great suggestions and constructive criticism. Even so we continue to have worsening economic and social problems. If history is anything to go by, in another year we will have a further admission of worst problems and more solutions.
The problem we continue to face is one of political and commercial will and ability to implement. This is evident from the number of commissions of enquiries we continue to have year after year on the same issues. It is time for us to stop talking and act especially in light of the predictions of social instability.
We have managed after 40 years of Independence to guide this country to a wreck and continue to honour and look for leadership from those who have done so.
The talk-shows and newspapers continue to seek solutions from the same persons who assisted us into this situation. The real question for us to face is not whether we can find solutions to our problems, but are we ready to implement the solutions we have known about for years?
I am etc.,
