published: Wednesday | January 1, 2003

MAY PEN, Clarendon:

THE POLICE said they shot dead yesterday, a man who was wanted by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigations.

They identified him as Patrick Lawrence, 35, of Jackson Street, May Pen, Clarendon, who also used the aliases, Trevor Anderson and Trevor Rankine.

According to the May Pen police, a group of lawmen were on patrol in the Western Park community of May Pen about 11 a.m. when they saw a man, later identified as Lawrence, whose actions aroused their suspicion. They said they accosted him and he pulled a firearm.

The police said they opened fire hitting him. Lawrence was pronounced dead at hospital.

The police say a Ruger 9mm semi-automatic pistol with serial number 30938385, with 16 cartridges was taken from him.

Lawrence was wanted by the FBI for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and murder.

According to the FBI, he also used the aliases, Trevor Hamilton, Anthony Johnson, Anthony English, Joseph Williams, "English", "Tony", "Blacks", "Rankin".

The FBI says he was born in England and raised in Jamaica. He was known to carry a loaded weapon in his rear waistband. He had ties to Canada, England, and Jamaica, and could speak with both a British and a Jamaican accent.

The FBI which knew him as Trevor Anderson, said he was wanted for his alleged involvement in the deaths of two people. On July 25, 1998, he was alleged to have shot and killed his girlfriend in the front yard of a residence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Five days before the murder, the two were known to have argued and Anderson allegedly shot the woman in the foot during the argument. A federal unlawful-flight-to-avoid- prosecution warrant was issued for Anderson on October 20, 1998. Anderson was wanted also by law enforcement authorities in Toronto, Canada, for a murder which occurred at a nightclub in 1993. During this incident, Anderson allegedly argued with a stranger inside the club, drew a handgun, and shot and killed this individual. Three other patrons were also wounded.
