Why two ombudsmen?
published: Wednesday | January 1, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I SEE our popular preacher and an honourable man, the Rev. Blair, appointed Political Ombudsman. He has our blessings.

Was this a permanent job or only to oversee electoral exercise or a call to clean up whatever was going amiss in the political arena. Mr. Editor I would like an answer. Why do we have two Ombudsmen?

We have Mr. Howard Hamilton our present Ombudsman, a man without guile, a man blessed with all the attributes, legal and otherwise a searching mind; Why another Ombudsman?

Five things are required of a good Ombudsman:

Ability, clean hands, dispatch, patience and last of all and so important, impartiality.

This is what Howard Hamilton is made of. I will say again we cannot afford this luxury while children go naked and starving.

I am, etc.,

RAYMOND GOLDSMITH
