Thanks BCIC ASSIST
published: Wednesday | January 1, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ALLOW ME to use this medium to express my thanks to Mr. Robert Moyston and members of the ASSIST team from my insurance company, British Caribbean Insurance Company (BCIC) for assistance rendered during my recent accident.

While I laud the initiative, I must also seek to use this medium to urge the authorities to make every effort to try and tackle the problem of stray animals meandering the streets, a challenge which keeps rearing its ugly head and has resulted in a number of serious accidents and deaths on many occasions.

I was on way to Kingston from Ocho Rios when on reaching Colegate in the vicinity of the Basic School when a huge brown cow literally charged off the hillside, and despite an attempt to avoid the animal I hit it, lost control and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

After making a phone call to the Ocho Rios Police Station, it was pleasing to see the Rescue Towing Service responding within minutes while awaiting the arrival of the police. A somewhat disappointing experience during my ordeal was the almost two-hour wait at the station before being able to give a statement. I believed that with the recently launched Citizens Charter that the service would have been much improved and an effort made to ensure that the matter be expedited.

On the contrary however, the support and service provided by Mr. Moyston and the ASSIST is worthy of commendation and ought to be replicated in other sectors. It was really refreshing to know that such an initiative does exist not only in principle but in terms of its practicality.

No praise can be too great for Mr. Moyston who has been there every step of the way to assist and take the pain out of the process. The provision of taxi service to my location in Kingston is one of the notable benefits of the programme. I wish to commend BCIC for the vision and foresight in implementing such a programme and it is my hope that it will grow from strength to strength and other companies will support this initiative which can only augur well for the insurance sector.

I am, etc.,
