Racing on our roads
published: Wednesday | January 1, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE HAVE been residents of the community of Meadowvale for several years and to witness and live with what is currently going now is hard to swallow. Some of the young men of the community have taken over the roads and neighbourhood for themselves. A particular car is being used to race at high speed. (No registration tag has been seen on the windscreen and the driver lives on Cougar Place). The most used course for such activity is Meadowvale Avenue, Meadowvale Boulevard and turn on Meadowvale Place, which is right next to the Caymanas Police Station. The following cannot be made to continue:

Using the roads as race tracks, terminating on Cougar Place.

The constant revving of engines and fixing of cars on Cougar Place, every night

Loud and boisterous talking, in addition to expletives and the playing of music from the cars into the 'wee' hours of the morning.

The above concerns may be seen as minor when compared to other matters that you have to deal with, but to us in the community they are major issues. We hope this matter will be given immediate attention before something serious happens and then corrective action is taken. I suggest that 'sleeping policemen' be placed on these roads and regular patrols by the police be implemented.

We plead with the police to be proactive and intervene now. Your immediate attention is anticipated.

We are, etc.,
