NWU president gives New Year's message
published: Wednesday | January 1, 2003

AS THE year 2002 comes to a close, a year which was one of mixed fortunes, let us commit ourselves to putting Jamaica first and remember the less fortunate in the society and work towards ensuring that we can build a unified nation. We need to put our best effort forward as a people to lift the nation out of the economic decline we have been experiencing due to domestic and world events.

We need to demand a more constructive and unified approach from our political leaders. Our nation needs healing which must begin with our leaders. Let's put the past behind us and work towards securing positive growth for our nation, which will ensure prosperity. Let us build a nation of love and understanding. Let us commit ourselves to being our brother's keeper as we give thanks to God.

We need to once again work towards the establishment of a social contract between the government, the employers and the trade union movement. We can build Jamaica as a nation of one people. Have a wonderful, prosperous, and happy New Year.
