Sean Paul debuts on Canadian charts
published: Monday | January 6, 2003

JUST WHEN we thought Sean Paul's success would be limited to the United States (US), the deejay has also broken into the Canadian music market.

The deejay's hit single, Gimme The Light has debuted at position number 14 on the 'Canadian Top 50 Singles' chart for the week ending December 21. Sean Paul is one of two Jamaicans on the chart with the other being Shaggy, whose single Lucky Day closed that same week in the fourth position.

Sean Paul's success in the US has not gone unnoticed as the Billboard magazine has listed him as one of the successes for reggae and dancehall for 2002 in its December 28 issue. His album Dutty Rock currently occupies position 122 on the Billboard Album Chart. He is fifth behind Beenie Man, Shaggy, Bob Marley and UB40 as the successful reggae artistes for 2002. His single was ranked number 74 on the charts for that year.

Speaking of Shaggy, his newest project, Lucky Day, ended the week of December 21 at position number 32 on the Canadian album charts.

In addition, his album has been certified gold in the US and sits in position 133 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. The project is also number two on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart and the deejay's album was ranked fourth for 2002.

Beenie Man ended 2002 as the number one reggae artiste. His album Tropical Storm also finished on top in terms of reggae albums. Meanwhile, No Doubt and Lady Saw's Underneath It All was ranked 71.
