Love for a lifetime
FOR TWO years he tried persuading her to go out on a date with him but she felt he was too young for her. Then one day in 1993, Claudette White gave in and told Kirk St. Patrick Rowe, "OK, I'll go on a date with you."
Last month, 10 years later, on December 14, they both said "I do". Mrs. Rowe says she'll never say "I do" to another man because this marriage is forever.
"That was one of the happiest days of my life. I wasn't nervous or anything, it was like a nice family get together," she adds. "Kirk wasn't nervous either. He met me halfway down the aisle."
The ceremony was conducted before a comfortable crowd of relatives and friends by the Reverend Jeffrey McKenzie at the Phillipo Baptist Church in Spanish Town.
The couple, who has a one-year-old son, met at the groom's family printery in Spanish Town, St. Catherine. He says that when he first saw her, he felt "she looked very attractive and she seemed a little jovial." A spark went off in his head and he knew he had to share his life with her. His pursuit paid off and the relationship bloomed. Soon after they had their son they agreed it was time to take the relationship to the next level. It has been good so far, they say.
Mr. Rowe is the general manager of the family printery, and his wife is an employee of the Cigarette Company. They say they are happy and that's what matters most.
"She likes to do things and she is kind and understanding," says Mr. Rowe of his wife.
"He is very quiet and loving, generous and understanding," she says of him.
