'Jungle justice' claims one
published: Monday | January 6, 2003

FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

VIGILANTE JUSTICE claimed the life of 38-year-old farmer, Ian Holmes, in Ulster Spring, Trelawny on the first day of the year.

Police reports are that Holmes, who is from Ulster Spring, was at a dance in the community at around 11 p.m. on New Year's Day, when he got into a dispute with another male patron. He brandished a home-made handgun which he allegedly used to beat the other man.

He, however, misjudged the mood of other patrons who, instead of cowering in fear, set upon him beating and stabbing him. He escaped into a gully and then onto the veranda of a home seeking refuge. He was found by the police on the veranda.

He was rushed to the Falmouth Hospital, but succumbed to his wounds at around 3 o'clock Thursday morning. The Ulster Spring Police, who are investigating, said he was wanted on two counts of shooting with intent and two counts of wounding with intent.
