BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:
VERROL EBANKS, administrator of the Black River Health Centre, has confirmed that the facility was broken into, but could not say if anything was stolen from the medical complex which is situated in front of the Black River Hospital.
Speaking with The Gleaner on Thursday, Mr. Ebanks said that he was still waiting on a report from the officers who were investigating the incident, which took place between late last Sunday and early Monday morning.
District Constable Coran Neil of the Peter Plains police station told The Gleaner that robbers also struck at the Southfield health centre, between late Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. He said that the robbers entered through a rear door and then removed locks from the office and canteen doors.
"They (robbers) removed items such as birth control tablets, needles, condoms, insulin, baby feed, biscuits, among other things from the facility," he said. "We are yet to arrest and charge anyone in connection with the break-in. However, our investigations are continuing."
According to the Black River police, the items stolen from the health centre are similar to that which were removed from the Southfield health centre.
"For two of our health centres to be broken into in less than four days, is a cause for concern. Not only that, but the police are yet to arrest and charge anyone responsible for these incidents," remarked one Black River
resident.
