FORMER national youth representative Kaydeanne Holness has made a comeback to competitive netball but while she is working on regaining top form, is hopeful that her return will reap positive results for club team Windalco.
"It feels really really good to be playing once more. I am just getting back in shape but I'm hoping that my individual performance can help my team get far in this competition," said Holness who represented Jamaica in Canada in 1996, Wales in 2001 and in Test series against New Zealand, South Africa, England and Australia between 1999 and 2000.
Holness, now 23, had taken a break to focus on studies at Mico Teachers' College. That has been successfully completed and she is now a Social Studies and Physical Education teacher at Manchester High School.
Playing at goal attack yesterday, Holness helped shoot Windalco B to an exciting 25-23 win over Arnett Gardens in JNA/JNBS consolation knockout action at the Leila Robinson Courts yesterday.
Windalco B were among the eight teams that advanced to Saturday's quarter-final at the same venue and, they like their A team counterparts who have advanced to the Open League quarterfinals, will be hoping to advance to the next round.
Holness is banking on her shooting skills and support from her teammates will help them get there.
A return to the national programme also figures in her plans but for right now, she is content with seeing Windalco outshine the more seasoned teams in the league.
Meanwhile, Speg A, Dela Vega A and Hampshire B also advanced to the quarter-final round after recording victory in their respective matches.
Speg A stopped Blades A 24-12, Hampshire B beat Jetsetters B 16-13 while Dela Vega eliminated Alpha 20-17.
Saturday's Open League quarter-final matches will see Jamalco against Seneca A, Jetsetters A against Blades A, Tivoli A against Windalco A and Omega against defending champions Waulgrovians.
Action starts at 3:00 p.m. with the consolation knockout quarter-finals.
