No sympathy for taximen

THE EDITOR, Sir:
RE TAXI drivers: Normally, I believe that every man should have the opportunity to make a living and to get a fair share of the pie, but in the current dispute between the government and the taxi drivers, I must say that I have absolutely no sympathy whatsover for the taxi drivers.
With very few exceptions, they are the most indisciplined, arrogant, dangerous members of the driving public. They drive as if the roads are for their exclusive use and have no consideration for other road users. They routinely stop anywhere they feel to pick up or discharge passengers and they overtake at breakneck speed, only to stop a couple of hundred yards further on down the road. They park wherever they like, usually with the driver's door open, thus causing maximum inconvenience to others. They are a menace.
Unfortunately, they are a microcosm of what is happening throughout Jamaica society and I feel that the police should come down on them with an iron fist to let them know that if they want to enjoy the benefits of living in a civilised society, then they must learn to behave in a civilised way themselves.
