True service from Customs, Immigration

THE EDITOR, Sir:
DURING THE Christmas holidays the officers of the Immigration and Customs Departments at the Norman Manley and Sangster International airports performed their jobs in a professional and exemplary way that should make every Jamaican feel very proud.
These officers, operating under the arduous conditions of the Christmas rush of the travelling public, were cordial, helpful and professional, in dealing with incoming passengers. I have written to the Commissioner of Customs and to the Chief Immigration officer offering my congratulations. However, I felt that a public expression of my commendation should be made in the press. The management and staff of both departments deserve our praise and support for their wonderful example of professional conduct.
I have received expressions of congratulations and support from tour operators and others expressing their appreciation for the quality of performance of these officers.
I am, therefore, very pleased to write this letter to publicly acknowledge and congratulate the good performance of the Customs and immigration officers who have shown that we can perform at the highest levels when called upon to do so. I must also congratulate the management of both departments for the part that they have played in achieving this high level of performance.
