Disturbed by new UK visa regime
published: Monday | January 13, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM a Jamaican living in Canada for the past 10 years and I am a law-abiding citizen.

I am truly disturbed at the decision to have Jamaicans needing a visa to travel to the UK. I believe that we are a civilised group of people and very talented in all areas and can make valuable contributions to any society that we are a part of.

I am not in any way affected but I feel badly for the good citizens who will have to resort to this screening process. I truly believe that it is only a few unscrupulous louts that refuse to abide by the law wherever they go and now it affects us all.

I hope that this will be a lesson to them to curb their dirty ways and not cause any further embarrassment to our wonderful island, Jamaica land we will always love.

I am etc.,
