published: Tuesday | January 14, 2003

New SAJ President Harry Maragh(centre) leafs through the president's report at the 64th AGM, as Vice President Michael Bernard (left) and Immediate Past President Grantley Stephenson look on.

HARRY MARAGH, Chairman / Chief Executive Officer of the Lannaman & Morris Group of Companies was last Friday (Jan. 10) elected the new President of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ), and has been charged with the duty of leading the Association through a transition as it seeks to become an organisation of national relevance and impact.

He succeeds Grantley Stephenson who has been President for five consecutive terms since 1998. The SAJ Board for the 2003/4 administrative year was elected at the 64th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association at its Newport West office complex in Kingston.

Mr. Maragh will be supported by Michael Bernard, who was elected as the new Vice President. Other members of the Board are Paula Pinnock, Hylton Clarke, Kim Clarke, Donavan Martin, Charles Johnston, James Worton and Roger Hinds. Mr. Stephenson will also serve on the Board as the Immediate Past President.

In accepting the office of President, Mr. Maragh said his vision included "repositioning the Association to become a more relevant and to empower and develop human resources both in the Association and the industry by creating opportunities and direction for growth". His other goals include strengthening the industry through cooperation and information technology. "The groundwork has been laid by the previous administration, and the combined efforts of the dedicated management and staff of the SAJ and the portworkers will ensure the success of this Association to the benefit of all," Mr. Maragh stated.
