Problems for Headley Cup
published: Tuesday | January 14, 2003

By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

THERE ARE doubts as to the playing of some of the Wilco/Headley Cup matches set for today's opening day after heavy rains lashed the region over the weekend.

Sixteen schools are down to take part in Zones A and B of the all island competition and eight matches are down to be contested between today and tomorrow. Games are scheduled to start at 10:30 and will end at 6:00 p.m. and first round games will be decided on one innings.

The rules of the competition do not call for the covering of pitches and up to yesterday afternoon, some of the schools reported that their fields were still soft and pitches could not be prepared.

Today, Cambridge will host Anchovy while William Knibb will visit Herbert Morrison in Zone A.

In Zone B, Knockalva and Godfrey Stewart will meet while Mannings will host Frome in Savanna la Mar.

On Wednesday Cornwall College will host Rusea's and St James High play Muschett in Zone A while the two game sin Zone B will see Little London hosting Grange Hill and Petersfield and Merlene Ottey meeting.

Games will also be played Friday and Saturday.

The zones will see - Zone A: Cambridge, Anchovy, Herbert Morrison, William Knibb, Cornwall College, Rusea's, St James and Muschett.

Zone B - Knockalva, Godfrey Stewart, Mannings, Frome, Grange Hill, Little London, Merlene Ottey and Petersfield.
