By Charmaine Austin, Staff ReporterCANADIAN contractors, Trumbley & Hampton Incorporated, say there is no need to worry in response to conflicting reports that have surfaced regarding the progress of work being carried out on the new indoor court facility at the National Stadium Complex.
Trumbley & Hampton were awarded a $6-million contract by the Jamaican government to undertake the project that is expected to be ready in time for the World Netball Championship in July.
Speaking by telephone from Canada yesterday, Robert Trumbley, president of the firm, said: "Everything is going smoothly. I've been getting regular reports on the project and we're progressing according to plan.
"Ourselves and the UDC (Urban Development Corporation) are committed to seeing this project completed. We started on time and we will be finished on time. There will even be time for the netballers to test the facility in June.
"We don't anticipate there will be any changes at this point in time."
There have been reports that a shipment of material has been sitting on the wharf for some time now and cannot be cleared but Trumbley clarified this.
"We may have a delay in clearing some containers at customs but it's not a hold-up at this time.
"We've got some stuff on the wharf that includes office material, hand tools, door frames and stuff like that in the containers but we don't have a need for any of that stuff right now. It really isn't and won't be a problem when we are ready for it," he said.
A visit to the site yesterday saw workmen preparing for plumbing and electrical work. Foundation work was also in progress.
According to one local contractor present, the site is ready for the erection of the Butler pre-engineered building. The material is expected to arrive within another two weeks. When it does, erection will begin.
The finished product will be a 200ft clear span (no columns in the middle), air-conditioned Butler building with modern amenities.
